You’re the one in charge

Here’s a short Dharma talk from Daehaeng Kun Sunim. One of the points that she would emphasise was that we’re the one’s in charge of our fate, as it were. She would often say that this body we have is the result of the karmic affinity we’ve made, but not because she wanted to blame anyone.

Rather, I suspect, she wanted to stop people from blaming others, because it denies that we are interconnected, as well as being a giant waste of time. And, if our body and situation now are what we made in the past, then we are the ones who have the power to make our future! If we made this, then, we can make that.

Be careful not to try to make designs that are just reflections of your fixed ideas, though. Try to visualize a more positive direction, along with specifics if the situation is urgent, but then entrust that to your foundation, but that energy is where the big picture is known, for lack of better words.

You’re the One in Charge

You’re the one in charge of how you are born,
not your parents.
Whether your physical and spiritual level is high or low
is all up to you.
So take this precious, tangible body that’s formed
from the karmic affinity you created,
and, with the opportunity it provides,
work to deepen your faith in your intangible, true self.
For that is the energy that can do anything,
that can create anything.

Day 20 – the minds of all Buddhas

This is only the first sentence of this verse, but just this one part, input deeply, is probably very good for us!

The mind of all Buddhas functions together with my one mind.

Day 19 – the truth of how everything works

With infinite compassion,
my one mind reveals the precious truth
of how everything in the universe flows.

Day 18 – Always brightly leads me

The deep sincerity of all Buddhas is the sincerity of my one mind.
It always brightly leads me
using all manner of seen and unseen methods.

Day 17 – how to see clearly

Through the eyes of my one mind,
see the entire universe as it truly is,
and by clearly seeing the dead,
fully understand the living.

Day 16 – The eyes of my one mind

What does it mean if the eyes of all Buddhas are the eyes of your one mind? One of the great things about reciting these a few times throughout the day is that some implications of the verse that fit your life begin to appear.

The bright eyes of all Buddhas
are the eyes of my one mind.

Day 15 – Harmonizing all seen and unseen realms

The hands of my one mind,
their touch harmonizes all seen and unseen realms.
How can words express my gratitude?

Day 14 – The compassionate hands of all Buddhas

Happy Korean Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has a wonderful day, and may you and your family all be healthy and happy!

The compassionate hands of all Buddhas
are the hands of my one mind.

Day 13 – The great saving power of my one mind

Daehaeng Kun Sunim, with her attendant, Hyesu Sunim

The great saving power of all Buddhas
becomes the saving power of my one mind.
With it I can live every day free of entanglements.
So wonderful!

Day 12 – Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion resides within

Are you remembering to recite these out loud? Have you noticed any effect of this?

Avalokitesvara,
the Bodhisattva of Compassion,
who hears the cries of all the world,
resides within my one mind.
How can I express my gratitude?
