start by letting go

From the ‘Lotus Lantern’, the English-language journal of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, Vol.42 – Summer 2010:

What are you looking for?
Whatever it is, you have to start by letting go;
Learn to trust the fundamental source within you.
Whether we call this Buddha-nature, God, or true self
Makes no difference. It has guided you and supported you
For a billion eons. Through it all things are connected,
And unseen energy flows back and forth
Between all lives and things.

  1. Perfect, simple, nothing “I” gets to cling to or analyze. Just, “let go” is really the answer to it all… Beautiful!

  2. Interesting what strikes each one of us, where we are in our practice.

“Learn to trust the fundamental source within you.” This is the line that called out to me. Remembering and resting in that trust is big in my practice these days.

  3. ‘And unseen energy flows back and forth
    Between all lives and things.’

…and seems to perfectly follow up our discission about bowls.
what we are looking for is already there.

great start into a new day here – thanks Marcus:)

  4. The thing that speaks to me in this is how it addresses my ‘spiritual cravings’ (for want of a better term). You know, some days I wake up and praise God. By lunch-time I’m calling on the Bodhisattva, and in the evening I’m resting in the Tao! LOL!

I imagine Daehaeng Sunim saying, “Marcus, the name’s not important, just rest and let go, knowing that whatever ‘it’ is, it’s right there with you all the time! Just let go, and trust its guidance and support. Let go, and it’s right there.

    Thanks Rachel, Zendotstudio, and Evelyn!

  5. {Through it all things are connected,
And unseen energy flows back and forth

Just imagine how much better things would be in this world if people just understood this one very basic principle… all things are interconnected. What we do and say not only effects us, but also ripples out through this unseen “web” and effects so many others. ॐ

  6. “Learn to trust the fundamental source within you.” This resonates for me too. I’m working on developing that trust. Thanks for this Marcus.

  7. I don’t know how many times I’ve lost something and not long after finally letting go of it, it’s found again!
I know that’s not the point of letting go, but I find it interesting, anyway! ^^

    Thank you, Marcus!
